One of my favorite works from Collection 2016 brings up the answer to the question above. The title is Master of the Waters. I never went to lengths of describing this painting as the meaning of this work all lies in a quote by Omar N. Bradley “Set your course by the stars, not by the lights of every passing ship.”
We take for granted that something unique is self-content and self-contained, something like no other. Going back to the origins of my paintings, it all started in a prison cell in isolation, with Loneliness as my only companion.
I never came across any knowledge of art or art history in my life as it just was not my cup of tea. I did not know how to create abstract art. Until recently I was not familiar with any painters and work of art. Even today I would never read or study art as I am fully devoted to my writing and painting, I do not have time to spare. What’s important not to do, is try to mimic someone’s style because you simply enjoy it or you know it. If you are not familiar with any styles, your creation belongs to you.
I would bring the final note with the following story:
My PR was filling a web form for a recent art contest I have been invited to. He calls me asking who inspired me in order to fill in the questionnaire. My answer was no one as I really do not have knowledge of anyone. However, he says, I cannot go through the form unless I specify the field. My answer was, just put someone who has similarities with my works. My PR said I do not know anyone.
